Sketch Studies

The sketch below is a section of a mortal frame curved arch structure. The area under the main space was to be an exhibition space or office space.
Studies for bamboo flooring. This would need to be imported due to sophisticated manufacturing required to flatten bamboo. A study for an arch truss. Two stringers and one single tensile stringer. The material was going to be lightweight timber members that were to be cnc cut and imported. I have since shelved this idea if favour of using bamboo.

Study for bamboo truss for mezzanine floor.

Connection studies for glulam beams with steel inserts

Section study for subterrainian space. Initially I had glass as the floor, but thought better of it with maintainance concerns and the use of beetle nut!

Steel sleeve insert studies for the aluminium frame.

Initial designs for repetitive elements using tensile materials. A number of materials would need to be used - flexible such as Aluminium and the fabric. Rigid elements such as steel and bamboo will constitute the frame.

In this sketch I was considering using plywood to build the roof. I had to consider all sorts of waterproofing and maintenance, not to mention the weight!
